Petition the UK Government

Petition the Prime Minister to Deal with the issue of false allegations of sexual abuse in the following manner:

1. Substitute financial compensation for therapy for genuinely sexually abused negating primary motive of making false allegations.

2. Remove cases from conviction target rates.

3. Deter adult false accusers ensure they serve the same time as their victims did or would have done.

4. False accusers to compensate their victim(s; if funds are available in other forms pay towards the public purse cost of prosecution and if applicable, HM Prison Service.

5. Protect anonymity of accused unless convicted. If convicted and still protesting innocence Press must print this.

6. If a particular date of abuse is specified and the defendant provides an alibi for that date, the CPS or Police should not “move the goal posts” to ensure a conviction.

7. If suspect requests lie detector test he should be given one; if negative should be used at trial. Complainant should also take the test if the defendant's proves to be negative. The same applies the other way around.

To add:

If accused is later exonerated (and especially if proved to be innocent), Press to print news of such with at least the same prominence (typeface, position etc.) as the most prominent articles of the original articles and with minimum frequency of perhaps 1/5 the number of earlier mentions.

Further, not sure about the lie detector tests due to accuracy failings: see... http://www.spiked-online.com/index.php?/site/article/2802/
...but as the technology improves (fMRI etc.) most POST CRIME use seems entirely reasonable.

Mark,
I also want to add that the false accuser should have their anonymity lifted after conviction. This is a fundamental rquirement in my view. However, that was the existing petition as it stood.

6. If a particular date of abuse is specified and the defendant provides an alibi for that date, the CPS or Police should not “move the goal posts” to ensure a conviction.

What I find particularly disturbing is that the political motive to ensure convictions regardless of guilt is now accepted as a fact of life.

A false accuser should be sentenced to the same length of jail the accused recieved if there is a successful prosecution and it later transpires that the accusations were false. It seems that making false allegations is less of a crime than overstaying on a parking space.

The closing date for the petition was last month, and the count stood at 365.

Does anyone know what the upshot to this was?
